The Idea

I guess I will start by introducing myself. My name is kat, and I’m addicted to playgrounds. I love all kinds of playgrounds, but I especially love playgrounds that you can still have fun on.

There is nothing less interesting than a new age “kid friendly” playground with a super soft ground made of puppies and fairy dust. All across America perfectly fun-filled and action packed playgrounds are being destroyed for the “safer” alternative.

I have lost my faith in this countries ability to make an interesting, contemporary playground, so I have decided that in my travels around the world I will take pictures of playgrounds that would have been “the first to go” in America.

I’m talking gravel for padding, metal slides that get too hot in summer, swings that go so high that you fear never coming down, ledges that lead to nowhere, merry-go-rounds, and of course, the way too tall for a little kid set of monkey bars.

A lot of life lessons are learned on the playground. We need to continue in the tradition.

Stop the rusty swings genocide.
